The Australian Herb & Spice Industry Association (AHSIA) is pleased to provide a copy of the posters - "Insect Pests of Herbs" and "Some Diseases of Herbs".  The posters will be posted to all registered industry participants or they can be downloaded from the PDF Link below.

These posters are derived from project PRJ-000597 – An investigation into some important pests and diseases of culinary herbs, funded by the Rural Industries Research & Development Corporation (RIRDC), a project that investigated some important pests and diseases of culinary herbs.

In addition to investigating these important pests/diseases of herbs grown in Australia and producing this poster as an educational tool for growers and research/extension personnel to allow accurate identification of a range of pests and diseases encountered in herbs, the project also aimed to develop a mechanism to manage beneficial insects in field herb crops.

The principal investigator involved in this RIRDC-funded work was John Hargreaves from Queensland’s Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI).

Many of the issues that currently limit the development and profitability of the herb and spice industry are common to all growers, yet expensive to deal with as individual business entities.  It is important for the competitiveness of the industry that all growers have access to up-to-date R&D information so that they can maintain adequate standards and follow proper procedures.  This way they are less likely to make costly mistakes that might drag the reputation of the whole industry down in the eyes of consumers.

AHSIA is currently inviting all industry participants to consider and comment on a proposal to implement a statutory Research & Development (R&D) Levy for the Australian culinary herb & spice industry that will underpin the implementation of the Research and Development Strategy for the Australian Herb and Spice Industry 2006-2011.

For further information on the levy proposal and consultation process, please visit the AHSIA website: http://web.ahsia.org.au/index.php/levies
